Merlin apparel or clothing is a brand dedicated to the safety and protection of the motorcyclist. Merlin’s current product range includes boots and textile clothing for riders & pillions.
The Merlin team has a combined 50 years of experience in the design & manufacture of the highest quality bike gear. During this time the team have sold more than 300,000 pieces of kit worldwide, and have worked with some of the very best MotoGP, WSB & BSB equivalent riders & this expertise has been transferred to the quality of gear designed for & worn by everyday riders like us. All in all this means when you buy a product with ‘Merlin’ on it, you ride safely in the knowledge that your kit has been produced by fellow enthusiasts with years of experience of design, materials, construction & safety. The product you ride in has passed through the hands of great racers who like you trusted in brands we produced.
In 2011 the design team is led by the internationally respected Brian Sansom the original founder of BKS, the premium highly-reputed made to measure sports brand. Brian has spent his whole life thinking about how to get each of us into the best gear possible & BKS was the first suit manufacturer, worldwide, to achieve CE status. Today, Merlin’s pursuit, through the leadership of Brian Sansom is to bring to each of us, no matter what our budget, exceptionally well spec’d gear.
Textiles – Not too many years ago we had to look to leather if we were to be certain of protection. Leather isn’t always the most comfortable in extremes of cold or indeed heat. Textile technology has & is continuing to develop at pace. Merlin outer shells are built in a range of strong courtecs from 450D through to 600D & then further strengthened & protected by the use of ripstop & ballistic. Merlin ensure all seams are, as a minimum, twin stitched. The outer courtec is water resistant however to provide 100% waterproofing we use the Merlin exclusive ‘Z aquatec’ waterproof-breathable membrane. Our membranes are floating rather than welded to the back of the textile. The welded construction will keep the rider dry, but sweaty! whereas Merlins floating construction is about dryness & comfort. For extra versatility we usually specify removable body warmers made up in 100g welded quilt-this is a simple zip in-zip out structure. The detailing with Merlin products is important so you’ll find arm adjusters, some by popper, some on high spec elastine, reflective inserts, amara & micro-fibre for skin comfort, lycra cuffs to minimise wind intrusion, double storm flaps & YKK zips throughout. All textiles come with high levels of storage, with front pockets, internal pockets and larger storage pockets to the rear of jacket on the more winter based range. All products come with CE approved armour to shoulder, elbow & knee.
